Dancing Queen - Spring 2011 Trends

70s Glamour is running rampant through the designer collections for this Spring.  My favorite glamour goddesses of that era would have to be Diana Ross as Tracey in Mahagony & Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface.  Both effortlessly displaying glamour, poise, and the side boob...lol.  Although I may be leaving out the side boob (b/c I wasn't blessed with great side boob), I want to draw my inspiration from these ladies.for the upcoming season

So every year I love looking up the trend report to see what will be on trend for the upcoming season.  For the month of January I want to do reports on the trends of the upcoming season and where you can find fabulous curvy women's clothing.  I would like to tip my hat off to the U.K., because their curvy women's clothing retailers are right on trend with mainstream.  It seems like it takes a year for the American plus retailers to catch up, but it used to be like 2 or 3 years so it is getting better.  I put together a few wish list pieces for Spring.  You guys know I get Spring fever early.   Anways I found a lot of cute pieces "on trend" at Very.

1.  70s Paisley Maxi Dress
2.  Waterfall Sleeve Waisted Top
3.  French Connection Gold & Black Triple Row Box Chain
4.  Two Tone Layered Stone Cocktail Ring
5.  Retro Trench
6.  Pleated Jumpsuit
7.  Print Strapless Dress

Quick Question:  I really love wearing rings, but since I got my engagement ring that is the only ring I have been wearing.  Does anyone know the etiquette on wearing rings with or besides your engagement ring?.  I have googled it and come up with nothing. Or I would like to know what some of you other ladies that are married/engaged do when it comes to wearing your statement jewelry?

  1. Love the styles!
I am a jewelry artist and I adore accessories too....lol! I, honestly, just wear my statement pieces on the opposite hand. If I am doing a show or whatever, I may choose to leave the ring at home and just "Rock the WORK" (my jewelry) for a more cohesive look. Hope that helps and Congrats! : )

  2. Hi sweetie, great post! as for the rings, I wear my engagementring, wedding band with a diamondring from my mum on the same finger, I say nevermind the etiquette, wear whatever feels meaningful to you. All though, the proper way would be the wedding band and the engagementring on the same finger. hugs, Anika

  3. I wear my engagement and wedding rings on the left, and my high school class ring on my right EVERY SINGLE DAY. However, when I do wear my statement rings, it is always the class ring that gets put away. I don't like wearing too many rings at once, so I always leave on my engagement/wedding rings, and ONE ring on the other hand, statement or not. :)

  4. There is nothing wrong with wearing additional jewelry especially if it adds to your outfit but I personally don't like to overdo the hand jewelry. I would wear one ring on the opposite hand because I do not want to take anything away from my wedding ring so I let it shine alone on my left hand.

  5. I am married. I normally wear my statement jewelry on my opposite hand just so it doesn't take away from my bridal set.

  7. @thefatandskinny - I feel that my costume jewelry clashes with my fine jewelry -- I feel like I shouldnt mix them

  8. I'm with Anika on this one; do what feels right to you! I didn't have an engagement ring, but I certainly wear all kinds of other rings with my wedding band.

  9. For those of us who lived through the 70's, dear god, make it stop. I'm sorry, but floppy hats, maxi dresses, and too-big sunglasses just look sloppy.

  11. @Meg. I think the good thing about the 70s revamp is that things are done better. No more polyester blend!!! I have seen a lot 70s stuff my parents used to have hopefully everything will be a huge upgrade

  12. I remember Michelle Obama got flack for not wearing her wedding ring during the inauguration ball but the statement ring that she wore was absolutely beautiful! I don't know if that helps but I think Michelle has a wonderful sense of style.

  14. You know I'm all about looking like Wulona from Good Times every single day so this 70's glamour is right up my alley!

As far as the rings, I don't typically wear them but if I did, I would just wear the statement jewelry on my other hand.

But in case your hubby gets inaugurated, I say rock the statement jewelry. Regardless you are still married, with or without the ring. (speaking of which, I need to email you the latest and greatest in terms of "weddings:)

  15. Hi Chasity,
first let me start by saying i love and appreciate your work so much. Sometimes i dont know if its the fact that i am approaching 30 and finally feeling more comfortable with the fact that i will never be a small petite girl or if its stylist and designers and media that are paying more attention to curvy girls...whatever it is i am loving it. Now to address the ring issue...i just got married in sept. and prior to my wedding/engagement i was such a connoisseur of huge rings ...the bigger the better. I obviously wear my wedding band/engagement ring on my left ring finger and I leave my 1 statement ring for my right hand. I dont have any rules regarding mixing gold and silver (my wedding set is white gold and my statement ring can be anything). I remember I went through a phase where i didnt want to mix silver and gold but now i find under certain circumstances it can work.

  17. I pair a statement piece like a diamond necklace with an otherwise casual outfit and it does the trick. My favorite necklace was customized by Anjolee. Check out their options:
