EPISODE TITLE:

Does Size Matter?

TLC, Say Yes to the Dress, Big Bliss, Plus Size Wedding Dress
Camille and Randy face the challenge of finding Katy a dress that will both fit and flatter.

Katy definitely had very definitive ideas on what was going to look good on her body type and what would not. It is always good for a bride to know what looks good on her body type and what does not. This will give your bridal consultant at least an idea of what silhouettes to try and get you headed in the right direction.

Misty is looking for a gown that will make her feel beautiful for the first time in her life.

Doubtful Misty was sure that she would not be able to fit into any of the samples at Kleinfeld, but much to her surprise she was able to try on gown after gown. Curvy brides: I encourage you to do your research while searching for that perfect wedding dress. A lot of bridal salons are starting to carry larger sample sizes and can offer you the same experience that they offer to their smaller sized brides. It’s up to you to do your research and call around to see who can accommodate your curves!

With a forty-six G cup, voluptuous bride Niema visits alterations.

Niema is definitely a woman who knows what she wants. Niema’s story was definitely a great lesson in making sure your dress is 100% to your liking. Niema bought a $4000 dress, but then made extensive alterations to the dress. The seamstress constructed sleeves, so that she could give Niema’s bust the support the bride needed. Niema also wanted to make sure the shape of the dress flattered her. She instructed the seamstress to change the shape of the bottom of the dress into a more form fitting silhouette. With all the alterations this dress carried the price tag of $12,000. The lesson here is: You can definitely do significant alterations to your bridal gown, but it’s going to cost you!

Speaking of alterations, does anyone have extensive alterations done to their gown like Niema?

  2. How about just buying a dress that fitted right from the beginning? For a total of $16,000 she could have gotten a fabulous dress! with alterations!

  3. Wow All the alteration, why did she not have it custom made for. Then again if she felt good on the day then for her it was worth it.

  4. Wow! That's to much money on alterations, and she wanted it to form fit her? It looks like she has no curves what so ever. It goes straight down? I think she should have like a poof at the bottom like a cinderella kindda dress. And the silhouette on top.

  5. That's 200% of the price of the dress spent on alterations :S I would've just had one custom made. It looks as though the seamstress hasn't done a great job either, especially for the cost. Poor girl :(

  7. That was too much for alterations. She paid for the price of 4 of those dresses. And the dress is not flattering her.

  13. Looking at my dress I wouldn't have changed a thing. I don't think anyone has the right to tell a bride how they should look on their day or how much they should spend on their dress. Not everyone can afford platinum weddings or couture gowns or even alterations. If you can and thats what you want go ahead. That's what I did and I have no regrets. Plus size bliss isn't about shape or style it's about wedding dress stories as it pertains to plus size brides. I would love to see all the wedding pics from all the women who didn't like the dress or felt very expressive about the way another bride should have looked.

  14. Well, it took me so long reading all the comments here and I am sorry to hear about Niema who spent a very expensive bridal gown for herself. Let's just respect her decision, it was her choice and... she didn't even get any penny from us. :)

  16. Hi I was reading the huff post about your wedding dress and you say they couldn't put the size eight dress on, my question is: Why they didn't put a size bigger on you? and if they didn't have your size why didn't you go to another bridal shop?

    1. Hi Karina, I was new to the area of the Dallas at the time. The largest size the bridal boutique carried in the dress that I wanted was an 8. This is true for most bridal boutiques unless they specialize in plus size. At that time there weren't any plus size bridal boutiques in the area. I wasn't willing to hop a plan at the time to visit one. This is a huge issue that a lot of women over a size 10/12 face. Plus size sample sizes aren't stocked. I could have went to 100 bridal shops in that area and I would have run into the same problem. I could've went to a David's Bridal, but that is not what I wanted. Here's the thing, fat or not, every woman deserves the full wedding dress experience if that's what they want. That's the point of the me talking about the elastic thing. If you are over a certain size and not in an area with a plus size bridal boutique then you won't get it.

  19. The pic here is not the final look of the dress. I don't think she should've paid $8000 for customization and alterations but the final look on the episode was just what she wanted and it looked cute.
