Confidence 101

I feel like this sort of post has been on my mind for months now.  On my Instagram, I am a lot more interactive with women and readers of this blog.  (Sidenote:  Instagram is the new Twitter. Shotgun! LOL)  I keep seeing the confidence (or lack of) commentators.  I did this video to shed some light on confidence, from my perspective, in hopes of helping out others find there inner fabulousness.

Sidenote:  The Rachel Pally dress winner is listed in the rafflecopter widget in the original post or you can click here.  Congrats!  Please excuse my boobiliciousness in the video, the girls apparently wanted their own camera time.

  1. Thanks for posting this, Chastity. I completely agree with your concerns about the lack of confidence, and that only we ourselves can change this. Unlike you, I didn't have one day when I woke up to accepting and loving myself: for me, it's an every day choice. Some days are easy ("I am the BOMB!") and other days are more challenging ("Get it together, chickie") :) But we all need to believe in ourselves, and, like you said, surround ourselves with people who show us their love and support, not tear us down under the guise of being "helpful."

  2. The rafflecopter widget is missing. Is there another place to find the winner?

  4. I think you perfectly hit the nail on the head when you pointed out the difference between envy and inspiration. I think that envy is major out here in these Instagram streets!!

My dad always said: "You are the only you that the world is going to know. Be amazing!"

I don't know where he got that quote from, but it has always stuck with me and I tell it to my kids to this day.

Shout out to you for always being a champion for any size woman!! Plus size or not, we all need to support one another.

  9. I am 27, 5"11, and a 24/26. I am about to experience a promotion and really needed to hear all 21 minutes of that chat. I think this is a perfect chance to reinvent myself and change the way I think. Thank you for pointing out that how I think of myself is a choice that I make. I have a closet full of clothing (including Jibri!) that I am afraid to wear for fear of people noticing me too much. How do I get over people commenting on the changes I make as I strive to better myself?

    1. Well unless you around rude people then I assume that the comments are positive?! I love compliments, personally. It's just an audible confirmation that you are going in the right direction with your look. Oprah said when you do your best, people will notice. You can apply this to getting dressed, as well. Looking your best will cause people to notice you and most commonly give you a compliment. Why would you buy pretty clothes if you just wanted to blend into the wall, you know?! You get over comments by looking at them in a positive way and not thinking that someone means something different. Oh, I love that skirt you are wearing today doesn't mean you look like a rhinosaurus. It just doesn't. When people pay compliments, especially women, they are most often genuine. People don't go out of their way to be positive, because being negative is so easy. If there are in fact people who make rude comments, then just think of them as haters and keep it pumping. Rude commentators are usually dissatisfied with themselves in some way. Feel sorry for them at best.

  13. Chastity, I think you just changed my life :) I was ready to skip this post because I felt I've heard all the confidence boosting ideas there are and nothing seems to click. But, I watched anyway and it was like being slapped in the face: "Hey, if you wake up everyday and say 'I hate my job' and then dress like you hate your job, guess what? You'll have a bad day!"

So, for the past two weeks I have made an effort to overdress for work and I shocked myself, because things do feel better. Nothing at work has changed but I look amazing, I'm exuding confidence, and everyone is noticing. Each day is now a reason for me to put together an amazing outfit and express myself. Each day is a new creative venture and I look way too good to sweat all the small stuff. Now, I wake up and think "Yes! A new look to try" and it just so happens I'm going to work. I have never believed "dress for success" was a reality, but having now tried it, I am a believer.

Thank you so very much for the inspiration you provide.
