Lane Bryant's Iconic Collection...not so Iconic - Garnerstyle

Lane Bryant's Iconic Collection...not so Iconic

I wandered into Lane Bryant today after an eyebrow waxing.  I figured I would get up close and personal with the Iconic Collection, look for some jeans, and maybe to even find something to buy.  I generally hate LB's lack of style aesthetic, but I saw a couple of things online that I wanted to see in person.

The Good:  Unfortunately, there was only piece from the Iconic Collection that I wanted to buy.  The boyfriend jacket.  I personally like the boyfriend looks, but this trend presents a lot of problems for the Curvy Girl.  1.  Baggy clothes/boy fit clothes dont work for women with curves.  We generally look better in things that fit.  I really wanted a BF jacket but I knew with my hips being as exaggerated as they are the a straight cut would not work.  Well what the Iconic did get right was BF jacket.  The jacket was made  of poly and rayon.  It had a cotton w/ stretch feel so even though it was cut straight, but had stretch, so it still fell on my curves nicely.  I got the jacket for $40 bucks...it was definitely not worth its $128 retail price.

The Bad:  Everything I tried on was ill fitted.  The question raised in my head,  "did they cut these clothes for regular size women?"  Also the crotch on the pants was way low...none of the pants were flattering.  The only reason I did not take pics, and I'm keeping it real, I did not want any pictures floating around of me looking so TERRIBLE!  I did want to try Jodhpur legging, but they werent in stock.

The Ugly:  These clothes are marked up considerably, but though the quality was decent, the clothes were nothing that I had to have.  The styles weren't innovative, stylish, and pretty much of all the pieces I tried on (and I tried on at least 10) I found one thing that was buyable.  The Iconic Collection was a bit of a snooze for me:( not at all the "high fashion" looks they advertised.

Has anyone else had any better luck with the Collection?  I would love to hear your thought.

  1. The Boyfriend Jacket looks great! I may have to go check that out! I find that in Lane Bryant the clothes aways have an awkward cut! Like the tops are weird or they stop like a belly shirt and I always think that if I have weight on me some is probably in the stomach area so why would the shirt stop where my belt starts? The key to shopping in lane bryant is to always TRY ON the clothes! Sometimes they will surprise you...but I agree with the last statement their clothes are marked up like they are a boutique and most of the time they arent worth that much!

  2. I really understand what you mean when you say 'ill fitting' when it comes to LB. They really need to do better or lower their prices.

  3. The jacket looks nice on you. It works with what you have on. However, there is just something about Lane Bryant's clothes that I feel doesn't flatter us curvy girls. Sometimes the cuts are all wrong. For example the pants always have this extra baggage in the front and they make your butt look like it was hit with a bookbag. The tops are cut so boxy that you lose the shape of your body and the styles are in between old lady and 40 something. I applaud them for being one of the first lines to dress women sizes 14 and above, but, I try to steer clear of them at all costs.

But, the jacket is a good look on you. I really like your style.

  4. Thanks to all...yes the jacket was really cute 'a must-have.' But so very true on LBs fit...the fit is bad and the clothes are matronly which is a bad combo - the Iconic collections is just not worth the money! I have gotten designer clothes (i.e Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, etc) for the same price with better fit and style. Thanks again for the compliment! Love you guys:)

  5. I agree completely with the prices going sky high at Lane Bryant. Looking at a tshirt for $49.50 when thats all I brought for the whole shopping trip ($25 off $75 coupon, you know what I mean!) makes me cry a bit! They have lost their minds! As far as I can tell, the quality has remained fairly the same as far as the fabrics, ect, but the prices have just gone nuts. You look great in that jacket, by the way!

  9. In the past couple of weeks, I've bought two Icon pieces. I have the purple Leger-esque bandage sweater in 14/16 and enjoy it. I also picked up a black sack-ish dress for $23 (down from $108), which I wore to my sorority meeting last week with a lot of confidence.

Most LB is not worth it at full price. I wait for sales and coupons.
