Fashion Emergency: Me and Jibri - Did I reach the brink of wearing too much leopard? or Not? - Garnerstyle

Fashion Emergency: Me and Jibri - Did I reach the brink of wearing too much leopard? or Not?

I’ve been on quite a shopping budget lately.  The wedding planning puts a slight cloud over my shopaholic ways. However; no cloud could stop me from getting at least one piece from the JIBRI fall collection. I purchased my favorite piece and just got it in the mail today.  I usually go for the more ornate pieces that JIBRI offers, but I ask…did I take it 3 steps too far with this one?  What are your thoughts? I’m expecting brutal honesty since that’s what I always dish out!

When I initially tried the dress on, I said "Damn this is a lot of leopard!"  My fiance said I startled him! ( I think he thought there was actually a leopard in the room with him for 2 seconds) But…I must admit…I feel fabulous in this leopard.  I think this dress is so over the top (and I love over the top), but can I realistically wear it?  Would I confuse my co-workers?  I styled it a couple of ways to see if I could tone down the leopard for a more conservative environment (mainly my office).  Oh how I wish I had gone to
Fashion Week this year...this is definitely a fashion week dress!

So…more detail about the dress!  It actually came with a detached slip underneath (which is fabulous in itself --- I have such a hard time finding slips when I need one).  So really you could go--- dare I say it ---- with a sexy black bra and a pair of tights underneath!  The dress is sheer, but the fabric conceals some of our body flaws. There are also cute little button details on the neck.  This dress is just ignorantly luxurious for only $240.

My intention was to blog on Michael Kors outfit today, but this dress trumped it....BIG TIME.  I would have taken more pictures, but the flash just went out on my camera during my photo shoot --- time for a new camera :(.

I threw a blazer on top for a more conservative look...to kind of tone down the leopard.

So what do you think...too much leopard for me....or not?

  1. Chastity! I kinda heart this dress! I don't think it's too much at all! You can dress it up and down.

That bow neckline seals the deal for me!

YOu probably could sleep a black pencil skirt over the bottom and rock the blouse...with a vest maybe?

    A blazer and red shoes?

With a red Vneck cardi or light sweater over it?

I say keep it. Although...240 for a dress would make me immediately go into convulsions...I think you can get the cost per wear down quite low.

It's fabulous for the holidays...For church.

Ooh...I might be going a little too far with this idea...but what about a semi full petti under with a red belt to cinch the waist?

Why am I excited about your damn dress!

  2. One more thing (because I'm psycho)...imagine wearing this under your trench with some boots or tights and booties in the fall!

  3. @Gods favorite shoes...you have read my mind...my mind has kind of went crazy of all the wonderful ways to wear this. Shoes are a hard thing for me now b/c of my knee, so I have to express myself through my dresses. You can really take this piece suuuuuuppppperrrr far. It was supposed to be for Fashion Night out, but thanks to the USPS man...it wasnt..oh the possibilities

  4. It's a lot of leopard, but I think it looks phenomenal on you!! I love it with the blazer, too.

  5. I LOVE it...It looks so expensive. I kinda heart GFS's idea of the petticoat underneath. Go hard or go home!! LOL...if you're gonna do a leopard dress...you might as well silence the crowd with your entrance. It's fashion forward without looking like a costume (as I've been seeing all OVER the place lately)10 colors of hair..cheap azz shoes..big circles of blush...cheap wanna be pill box hats etc....It's going too far with the el cheapo version of couture. Starting to look like high school play costumes!!! Whew...I digress!

LOL...Love the dress. If anybody can pull it if...you can.

  7. Chastity, this is right up my ally! I am a fashion stylist and I liked tehe dress better with the belt. Love the print so in for the fall..next time break it up with a red belt or with the same color belt but what would really break it up more is a darker shoe, preferably the same color as your belt...watch the difference!!! GREAT CHOICE! LOVE IT!!!!

  8. I would throw some red in there instead of black....maybe a red blazer or a red belt or red shoes....i think red would take some of the focus off of the leopard...

  10. Thanks for the ideas guys...I really want to see what I can do with the styling of such a fab piece. I would have tried a few more looks, but the old camera conked out on me.

  11. I like the dress and think it fits you well. I admit to not being a fan of the bow - is it detachable? - but the dress looks cute and I like it with the nude heels. I don't really like it with the black blazer though - it's like it's trying to be subdued when it's not. Just my 2 cents.

  12. I was thinking the same about red shoes. Its definately a bold print , I got a bit hazy eyed looking at it at first. I definately think it needs a statement piece like the red shoes to take some of the attention away from the bold print but if anyone can get away with this dress it's you.

  13. I'm not a huge fan of animal print but I freaking LOVE this dress! It's beautiful!

I think God's Favorite Shoes hit on some great possibilities!! WOWZER!

  14. At first glance I did think it was too much, but in the same breath I love it. The dress is so fly. @gods fave has wonderful suggestions. I think throwing in some color will shake things up.

  15. The dress is fabulous. I don't believe its over-the-top at all. A chunky sweater and some red flats could tone it down for the office, but I love the way you have it styled with the blazer.

  16. Love the dress. I think the dress is perfectly fine, especially if you pair it up with nice solid assesorys (one of my fav ways of toneing down a animal print). Just remember that small delicate assesorys (like a small thin neclace) would dissapear in this print so go big or not at all (just using neclace as an example, the bow on the dress is enough for that area). I would wear some chunky bracelets a belt and possably a blazer like you have on in the pict. Also if you want to break it up a bit one of those boyfriend cardis or wrap sweaters with a belt to cinch the waiste would be good.

  17. When I first saw it I was like HOLY LEOPARD but after looking at it a second and third time I love it.
I love it with the belt and the blazer.
So wear it and love it.

  18. I think the black blazer tones down the leopard and would look great in an office setting. Then, when you're out on the town, you could wear it as is and be over the top.

  20. I love the dress, I want to get it myself but not in the that print. How you have the bow tied on the side is not a good look, it makes you look like you dont have a neck.

  21. @i you can actually get the dress in other colors...I just wanted the leopard...LOL. I love the bow! I know it does cut off the neck, but I think Im gonna have to let it slide b/c I love the bow so much. I feel like a package...LOL

  22. I love the bow on the dress! The belt gives your waist definiton--which is a definite plus. I think you should rock the dress with yellow or red pumps or even an eggplant for the fall. I would ditch the black cardigan, blazer though--it's too drab, ordinary, and expected. Choose some color or even winter white or cream for some added POP!
