FFFWeek Day 1 - Garnerstyle

FFFWeek Day 1

Ok, so I endured my first full day of Full Figured Fashion Week.  I say endured because I have never been in so much pain and physical discomfort in all my life.  Trudging through the city fully dressed, beating the concrete, and dare I saw perspiration was definitely not the highlight LOL.  After day 1, I will be taking a cab EVERYWHERE! When I started to dress for the day, I thought I could dress for my daytime look and come back and dress for night.  WRONG!  A friend, who used to live here, said you will not have time to change.  So I had to do a quick switcheroo and make the days outfit into a quick day to night ensemble.  (I usually edit my pics with brightening, light, etc but this is guerrilla style since I'm still in NYC and don't have my computer).

This is the daytime look with the JIBRI jumpsuit $240, H&M sweater $24 (straight size), and a pair of nude flats.

That night I attended the Curves and Cocktail event.  It was nice to a lot of my fellow bloggers, such as, Parisan blogger Gaelle from Les Pitreries de Vanoue.  For night, I just removed the sweater and added a vintage necklace.  I slipped my removed items into my Macys shopping bag.  Speaking of Macys, tsk tsk....I went and visited the big Macys in NYC.  It was literally 9 floors! I went to visit the women's section on the 7th floor.  I will say that they had the biggest selection of plus size clothing of any department store that I had seen, but I was sorely disappointed to see how neglected the department was.  The mannequins were styled poorly, the clothes just thrown around, and even the flooring was broken up and cracked.  Let's just say it was obvious who the step child of Macys was in this situation.

This was a mannequin display in the plus size section of the landmark Macys.  Now the department actually had some very cute items, but they chose these tops to put on the mannequin. Now I thought the Michael Kors dress was cute, but it needed to pinned to give a more desirable fit and I won't even mention the JESUS SANDALS.  Um, yes I will....of all the shoes you have, these are the shoes you pick.  The jeans look just thrown on.  My 5 year old niece could have done a better job.

Anyways, that's my time and day one of Full Figured Fashion Week.  Tonight, I am going to the Indie show.  I can't wait.

  2. Personally I find the NYC Macy's always a bit junky like that. The sales are always good and the clothes on the racks are decent, but the store always looks like it's in the process of renovation to me. I was just there 3 weeks ago.

    1. Might I add that it's not just the Women's department. It's pretty much store wide with the exception of cosmetics.

  3. The department in the downtown SF store is similar - the displays are always uninspiring. I do love how you switched your look though C - that jumpsuit is EVERYTHING on you and I like it with the flat shoes! Hope day 2 is better for you!

  6. I like both looks but the night look makes a statement of glam.

Wow..they didn't put much effort into styling those mannies. The shoes are so Golden Girls. Why did they do that? Sad face for Macys.

  7. I love those bright orange and pink outfits! Beautiful.

I have to say, I was really disappointed by Macy's when I visited last summer. In general, I felt it was quite run down and boring (except for the cosmetics/ bags and purses floor). Surely there is a member of staff working on that floor who can pull an outfit together better than this?! I mean, seriously? Those sandals with that black one shouldered-dress?! Nooooo!

  8. Oh I'm so sorry but these pics of the mannequins in Macy's just made me laugh. How could they?! So uninspiring... And don't even get me started on the sandals. Especially the ones paired with the black dress, really??! Helpless people...

  9. Not 1, not 2 but 3 pairs of those hideous sandals! You are right Milaxx its the entire store, that Macy's is in the process of major renovations so hopefully they'll improve in some departments; I also think that because its more of 'tourist anchor' department store, they know that whether clothes are on the floor or not, that store will always be packed with people.

  10. Wow you look amazing! I know I would not have faired as well going "guerilla style in NYC!" lol. You were able to pull off casual and glam with the jumpsuit. Those sandals from Macys are hideous why would they want to display them at all?

  11. I laughed at loud at your "guerrilla style" phrase. I love both your looks.

I bet you are going to be so tired once this is over. You were just in Chicago and now you're in NY.

I hope you have a great time and don't come across any other poorly styled mannequins.

  13. Obviously whoever works in the Macy's voluptuous department is a prejudiced skinny wench who probably would rather be in the Petite department. LOL I am only guessing but I have witnessed firsthand a similar situation.

Seriously... JESUS SANDALS?!?!?!? Wow... I would love to just b-slap whoever dressed those mannequins! I would have just started stripping them down and dress them up myself!
