Elena Miro - Milan Fashion Week

It's almost hard to believe that these clothes are even plus size.  Elena Miro shows her Spring 2013 collection at Milan Fashion Week.  I've known about this designer for years as she is known for being the only plus size designer to show at Milan Fashion Week or any fashion week for that matter.   I've coveted pieces from her collection for probably 5 seasons now. Her collection is generally not available in the United States.   The pieces that I have seen available are generally just basics and not the fabulous pieces you see here.  Just look at the intricate details on the bustiers.  I have been wanting a bustier with the structured bust detail for years.   As my husband and I are are planning an European vacation for late summer of next year, I have full intentions on sliding in a visit to Elena Miro on the agenda.  Don't tell him, he is already set up.   It's hard to believe that I never see any of the plus size stars in her designs.  I'm going to need their stylists to do better!

You can view the entire collection here.  I'm in love with the black dress with the bustier detail and mixture of textures.  What's your favorite piece?

  2. Hi! ^__^
I'm Italian, and actually I'm not really happy with Elena Mirò... for example, this is the new collection called For.me (that in Italian can be read as one word "shapes") and it's a special collection focused on sizes 44/46/48 (10/12/14 Usa i think? I'm not sure of the conversion of the sizes) and it stops to size 50.
So.. well, it may be a curvy collection, but definetely not a plus size.

    1. To my knowledge the collection stops at a 52. The conversion to U.S. is closer to 14, 16, 18. Most fashion labels that I've seen stop at either a 40 or 42 when I've shopped Italian designers so it's definitively in the plus range. Elana Miro has always designed for a very active plus woman for what she calls a Meditaranian shape. I.e. plus women without cars that have to walk everywhere. The label has insisted for years that many plus size women are in great shape and have nothing to hide. This is a concept many US designers haven't focused on, preference has been to focus on concealing flaws we're told we have. They are just different design view points. I would actually say the opposite. The collection is plus sized but it is not a curvy collection. I feel disrespected when someone insists that my lack of curves makes me not plus size. Curvy is a shape, plus refers to a size.

    2. Thanks Miria -- I really don't know a lot about the line b/c I haven't seen in person, so that def. puts some perspective on it!

@Cathy -- Thanks for the info!!!

  3. Great comment, Cathy. Chastity, maybe the differences you see are the differences between a runway/couture line and the ready to wear. We sell Elena Miro in our shop (and to my knowledge, we're the only ones who do) and while it is really beautiful stuff, it's not what you see on the runway. They go to 52, which corresponds to a US 22. Their knits, of course, are more flexible. Thanks for featuring this show: I just saw it myself online, and I would love, like you, for stylists to dress some celebrities in it!
